With only 5 simple ingredients, you just don’t get any easier then this recipe for Portobello Steaks by The Buddhist Chef. Many Portobello Steak recipes over-complicate it by using ingredients like soy sauce or balsamic vinegar however the problem is that mushrooms are like sponges and rather then your steaks grilling they just boil, leaving them wet and chewy. Not exactly what you want from a steak is it?


3 portobello mushrooms

1/4 cup of olive oil (60ml)

2 – 4 tablespoons of steak spices, unsalted

1 rosemary stem, broken up into 3 pieces

Salt to taste


  1. Preheat oven to 400˚F (200˚C)
  2. In a bowl, mix all ingredients, making sure mushrooms are well coated in oil and spices.
  3. Place mushrooms in an oiled baking dish and bake for 20 to 30 minutes.Serve with roasted veggies and vegan gravy.
